Javier Chozas completed a Masters in Art, Creation and Research from the School of Fine Arts in Madrid. In 1999 he earned a degree in architecture from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid (Superior Technical School of Architecture of Madrid, ETSAM). Since then, he has participated in several artist-in-residency programmes in Beijing (Platform China, 2009), Germany (GlogauAir, 2010) and Madrid (El Ranchito, 2010, and Casa de Velázquez, 2013).
Javier has presented individual exhibitions in China (Arcaute Gallery, 2009) and Spain (Galería Blanca Berlín, 2012) and has been invited to present at Madrid’s 2010 La Noche en Blanco all-night arts festival, with his project Metrópolis (La Zúa Gallery).
Javier has also participated in collective exhibitions in China, Holland, Spain and Germany, notably including Boundless at Don Gallery, Shanghai (2010), Optica Festival at La Casa Encendida (2010), Moving Buildings at P60 in Amstelveen (2010), Destino Berlín at Kunsthaus Bethanien (2011), Reflective interventions at Art Claims Impulse Gallery, Transmediale Satellite Partners (2011), and more recently The Wild Bunch exhibitions at the gallery ASM28 in Madrid (2012).
He has received an artistic production grant from the Fundación Arte y Derecho (2011) for his project Archivo Vital de Artistas de Madrid and an artist-in-residency grant from El Ranchito (2011). More recently, he has been awarded an artist-in-residency grant from Casa de Velázquez (February to April 2013) and from Fundación Banco Santander, as part of the Entreacto competition. Javier recently has been awarded a grant by the British Council to pursue doctoral studies at the Ruskin School in Oxford, as from February 2014.
In early 2013, Javier was selected for the Ciutat de Palma Antoni Gelabert Award and the IV Drawing Award organised by Fundación Centenera Jaraba. Javier participated in #programalaplaza, an exhibition of interactive projects on Medialab Prado’s digital facade, and on the News, Events and Friends exhibition organised by Tania Pardo and Guillermo Espinosa, in New Gallery. Javier has also exhibited his work at Galería Espacio Mínimo as part of the Entre el reflejo project, winner of the Entreacto prize, among others.
